MATCH 1

EMMA AND SHELLEY WIN AFTER FLYING START

Emma Duggleby & Shelley McKevitt (GB&I) beat Erica Blasberg & Sarah Huarte (USA) by 2 and 1.

The GB&I pair shot into a four-hole lead after only seven holes with the help of birdies at the first and third and concessions at the fifth and seventh.

Duggleby holed from 20ft at the first and McKevitt from 30ft, off the green, for the third-hole birdie. The GB&I pair had their first setback with a bogey 6 to lose the long eighth and go back to three up.
Duggleby and McKevitt, out in an approximate one-under-par 36, went five up after 10 when Blasberg and Huarte bogeyed the ninth and 10th.

Blasberg holed a 6ft birdie putt after a nice approach by Huarte for the United States to win the 13th and go back to four down.

The GB&I pair conceded the 14th and were three up with four to play.

That became two up with three to play when Duggleby and McKevitt bogeyed the 15th to lose it also. The GB&I pair moved to dormie two with a half in 3s at the short 16th. A half in 5 at the long 17th gave Duggleby and McKevitt a 2 and 1 win and levelled off the overall scoreline at 5-5.

MATCH 2

ANNE AND CLAIRE RALLY TO WIN FROM SLOW START

Anne Laing & Claire Coughlan (GB&I) beat Elizabeth Janangelo & Michelle Wie (USA) by 2 and 1

Janangelo holed an 8ft birdie putt to win the first hole for the United States and the Americans got another birdie at the long third to go two up.

Laing and Coughlan came back into the picture when the Americans bogeyed both the fourth and fifth to be pulled back to all square.

Janangelo and Wie bogeyed their third hole in a row to lose the sixth and fall one down.

The GB&I pair reached the turn in an estimated level par 37 and a one-hole lead which doubled at the 10th when the Americans conceded the hole.

Janangelo and Wie bogeyed the 11th, which put Laing and Coughlan three up. That became a four-hole lead when Coughlan holed an 8ft birdie putt at the 12th. Halves in par at the 13th and 14th put the GB&I pair in a dormie four position.

Janangelo and Wie won their first hole since the third when Laing and Coughlan had a rare bogey at the 15th.

MATCH 3

LANG AND THURMAN BUILD ON EARLY LEAD

Nicola Timmins & Danielle Masters (GB&I) lost to Brittany Lang & Annie Thurman (USA) by 5 and 4.

Lang and Thurman had a purple patch of consecutive birdies at the second, third and fourth to surge three holes up. Thurman chipped in at the second; the Americans pitched dead at the third and Thurman holed from 10ft at the fourth. It could have been four up for the rampant United States pair at the sixth but Thurman failed with a 4ft birdie putt.

Blasberg holed a 5ft birdie putt to put the Americans four up after eight holes. The United States pair, after a half in 4 at the ninth, reached the turn in four-under-par 33, the best scoring of the weekend so far.

Timmins and Masters scored their first success of the morning and they had to produce a birdie 2 at the short 10th to do it. Masters holed from 6ft. The Americans hit back immediately with a birdie 3 - Lang holing from 15ft - to win the 11th and regain a four-hole lead. That became a five-hole advantage with five to play when Timmins and Masters bogeyed the 13th and a half in par at the 14th clinched a 5 and 4 win for Lang and Thurman.
