PLAYER PROFILE

  Sarah Huarte

Home town: Shingle Springs, California
Date of Birth: February 21, 1982

University of California senior, Sarah follows in the footsteps of former college team-mate Vikki Laing who played for Great Britain in the 2002 Curtis Cup match at Fox Chapel.

In 1999, she was California State Junior champion.

At 22 and 5ft 9 in, Sarah is the oldest but not the tallest member of the United States team (Michelle Wie is 6ft tall).

Sarah clinched her place in the line-up for Formby by winning the South Atlantic Ladies amateur tournament in Florida after finishing tied fourth in the Harder Hall Invitation the previous week, in January this year.

Sarah reached the last 16 of the US women's amateur championship last year.

She has twice been named to the All-Pac-10 team and received an honourable mention for the 2003 All-American team.  She won the NCAA Division 1 women's title in May 2004.

Sarah likes the match-play as she demonstrated in winning both her matches against USC and Arizona State in the Hooter Collegiate match-play championship earlier this year.

On an American football note, Sarah's uncle, John Huarte, a quarter back at Notre Dame University, won the Heisman Trophy in 1964 as the top college player.
