First she reached the semi-finals of the English women's amateur
championship in May. Then he won the Bridget Jackson Bowl tournament
in June followed by the British women's amateur title at Royal
Portrush in August, including a course-record 71 in the final
round during which she had an albatross 2, holing from 170yd.
In September, Shelley won another prestigious 36-hole event,
the Liphook Scratch Cup, and then accepted an invitation to
play for Britain in the Commonwealth tournament in New Zealand.
Shelley capped the year by winning the New Zealand women's open
amateur title before coming home. In partnership with Emma Duggleby,
they won the international team event for England at the Helen
Holm Scottish open amateur stroke-play championship at Troon
in April.
She has twice shot six-under-par - at Reading in 1998 and in
North Carolina in 2000.
Her golf superstitions are no more than always starting a tournament
round with clean clubs and clean shoes. "Makes me feel
good!" she says.
Shelley likes being with friends, roller-blading, reading and
listening to music (Dido, Alicia Keys, David Gray, Robbie Williams).
